| Mana Pools National Park Mana Pools has been declared a world heritage site by Unesco and the number of visitors to the park is strictly controlled. There are no striped combis here to wheel the dust – nor other ugly products of tourism. At Mana Pools the Zambesi River meanders through a wide valley, repeatedly splaying out into islands, channels and sandbanks, with escarpments rising drammatically on either side. Along the banks of the river are the Pools which give Mana its name – depressions filled with water in abandoned river channels. Chine and Long Pool hold water throughout the year and attract large animal concentrations in the dry season. In fact, the great attraction of Mana is the wildlife. |
