BOTSWANA'S ATTRACTIONS

Kasane

Kasane sits amid a shady, riverine woodland at the meeting point of countries – Botswana, Zambia, Nambia and Zimbabwe – and the confluence of two major rivers the Chobe and Zambezi. Kasane is the gateway into the Chobe National Park. In fact the entrance to the Park, the riverfront is home to plenty of elephant (the last estimate quoted 85 000).

The river also brims with hippos and is home to buffaloes in their thousands. Amid the scrub live numerous giraffes, zebras, jackals, spotted hyenas, baboons, warthogs and wild dogs. Most endemic antelope species – kudus, elands, roans, sables, wildebeests, tsessebes, bushbucks, impalas and waterbucks are also present. The marshy river flood plain is also inhabited by Chobe's two trademark antelopes: the water-loving red lechwes and the very rare pukus.
